Q Both mission and vision are the foundation and lifeblood of NPOs and NGOs. The organizational vision provides an ultimate outcome that would mean, if realized, that the organization would no longer be needed. A vision statement should be inspiring and perhaps somewhat ideologically lofty. The mission defines who the organization serves, how, and for what purpose. In this Assignment, you will analyze the mission and vision statements of an NPO/NGO that you have selected and consider whether the organization’s purpose, values, and outcomes are in alignment with these statements. For this Assignment, review this week’s readings. Select an NPO or NGO that is of interest to you. Research the vision, mission, and annual report of your selected organization. Consider the social change issue you would like to address, and compare your desired outcome to the organization’s mission and vision statements. By Day 4 The Assignment: Part 1: Analysis of Vision and Mission Statements For the organization you are analyzing, do the following: • Provide a brief description of the NPO/NGO, including the context within which it exists. • Provide a summary of the organization’s mission and vision. In this summary, identify the words in the mission statement that indicate the organization’s purpose, approach, and values. • Evaluate the degree to which the organization’s outcomes reflect the mission and vision, using specific examples, or explain what you believe to be the most important function of this NPO’s mission and why. • Explain the strengths and weaknesses of the vision and mission statements and make recommendations for improving them. Submit Part 1 of your Assignment by Day 4. Be sure to support your Assignment with specific references to the resources and other current literature in the Walden Library. Part 2: Creation of an e-Portfolio Online portfolios are used by many professionals to demonstrate the knowledge and skills gained through educational and professional experiences. Creating a portfolio will prepare you to transition into the field as well as into higher level positions within your field. For this Assignment, you explore the e-portfolio feature of the OptimalResume website and you begin to set up an e-portfolio. To complete: • Create an account on the OptimalResume website. The URL and tutorial are available in this week’s Learning Resources. • Review in this week’s Learning Resources the materials on e-portfolio and OptimalResume and focus on how to create e-portfolio artifacts. Then, begin to set up an e-portfolio using OptimalResume. Note: It is not necessary to create a finished product; instead, you are setting up a portfolio and designing a space that can be enhanced over time. • This e-portfolio will be used in future courses, so you will have the opportunity to add artifacts and complete elements of the e-portfolio to meet your needs. • Take a screen shot of your e-portfolio. Paste the screen shot into a Word document. Submit Part 2 of your Assignment by Day 4.
